Limelight / IPL

The LimeLight facial is a new, non-invasive approach to skin rejuvenation using Cutera’s LimeLight attachment, well known & referred to as an Intense Pulsed Light. The procedure offers the advantage of improving skin tone and surface imperfections associated with aging, hormones, and photo damage from the sun.

The LimeLight facial is ideal for any part of your face, neck, and décolleté with skin redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins) or brown spots. Light brown spots which were previously difficult to resolve, respond very well to treatment, especially when combined with medical grade skin care to optimize results. LimeLight can also be combined with Levulan, a light activated chemical, to treat minimally and moderately thick grade 1 or 2 AK’s, as well as effectively treat acne.

LimeLight is an improvement of traditional IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments because the practitioner can customize the treatment specifically to your skin type and condition at the specific time period to selectively treat the brown and/or red pigmented areas on your skin. It’s the heating of the pigmented brown or red cells that cause this therapeutic effect.

Another improvement to this treatment is that the head of the laser actually cools the epidermis pre and post pulse. Although anesthesia is not required for this treatment, traditional IPL patients experienced a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Now because of the cooling addition, patients are more comfortable during their treatment.

Although LimeLight is mostly used on the face, the treatment can be done practically anywhere on the body. Face treatments usually only take15-30 minutes and are done monthly for 3-5 months for the average person. However, depending on you skin type and condition, more or less treatments may be required. Your practitioner will be able to assist you with this estimate when you have your consultation.

Following your treatment, you will notice brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day longer. Mineral make-up can be applied to cover this redness. Within one to three weeks, darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve.
