Meet Dr. Vitenas
The Fine Art of Natural Cosmetic Surgery
Q - What is a browlift?
The browlift, also known as a forehead lift, is a plastic surgery procedure which lifts the brow area and removes weight from the upper eyelids. The procedure can dramatically rejuvenate the upper face and relieve a tired, stressed, or mean look that may develop with age.

Q - Who is a candidate for a browlift?
Men and women who are in good health and looking to improve the appearance of the brow area may be good candidates for a browlift.

Q - What should I expect during a consultation for a browlift/forehead lift?
During the consultation for a browlift, Dr. Vitenas will go over your complete medical history, take the time to understand your goals, and answer all of your questions. You will see pre-op and post-op photos of previous browlift patients, and computer imaging will be used to help you visualize your own personal results. Dr. Vitenas will discuss reasonable and expected outcomes, and explain the details of the procedure including the technique, the recovery, the risks, the costs, and financing options.

Q - Where is the browlift surgery performed?
Dr. Vitenas performs the browlift surgery in his office operating suite or at the adjacent Day Surgery Center, an outpatient facility at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital.

Q - What type of anesthesia is used for the browlift?
The browlift is performed with general anesthesia.

Q - How is the browlift performed?
For the browlift, there are several possible locations for the incision. The traditional approach involves a coronal incision which starts at or behind the hairline and runs from ear to ear. A less extensive option is the hairline incision which is located within the hairline at the top of the forehead. The least extensive endoscopic approach involves several very small incisions which are located on the scalp. While the surgical technique may vary, the browlift is generally performed by removing excess tissue, altering or releasing the forehead muscles, elevating the eyebrows, and trimming excess skin.

Q - How long is the surgery for a browlift?
The browlift surgery is about one to two hours long.

Q - Where are the incisions made for the browlift?
The traditional browlift involves a coronal incision which begins at or behind the hairline and runs from ear to ear. A less extensive hairline incision, located at the top of the forehead within the hairline, is another option. For an endoscopic browlift, several very small incisions are made on the scalp.

Q - Does the browlift leave scars?
Though patients will have scars after the browlift, they are generally well-concealed within the hairline.

Q - Is the browlift a painful procedure?
Patients may experience some discomfort which can be managed with medication.

A-How long is the recovery after a browlift?
The recovery after a browlift takes one to two weeks.

Q - What is the recovery like after a browlift?
Patients can expect a recovery time of about one to two weeks after the browlift. Swelling and bruising may occur, with most of the swelling fading within a week or so and the bruising within two to three weeks. Itching may also occur with a traditional browlift performed with a coronal incision. Patients undergoing an endoscopic browlift generally have a shorter and less extensive recovery.

Q - When will I be able to return to work after my browlift surgery?
Patients are able to return to work within one to two weeks after the browlift procedure.

Q - When will I be able to exercise after my browlift procedure?
Patients will need to postpone strenuous activities and exercise for four to six weeks after the browlift.

Q - When are the stitches removed after the browlift?
The stitches are removed five to ten days after the browlift.

Q - What are the risks or possible complications of the browlift?
The potential risks or complications associated with the browlift may include bleeding, infection, and nerve injury resulting in loss of muscle function around the eye.

Q - Is the cost of the browlift covered by insurance?
While patients should consult with their own insurance carrier, browlifts performed for strictly cosmetic purposes are generally not covered by insurance.

Q - Is it possible to finance my browlift procedure?
There are financing options available for plastic surgery, and Dr. Vitenas will discuss these with you during your initial browlift consultation. You may also visit the following website: http://www.cosmeticfeeplan.com/.
