The Fraxel Laser is an innovative tool designed to restore the skin’s tone and texture. The procedure will safely resurface the skin; improving fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and areas of hyperpigmentation that come with the aging process. Fraxel treatments are quick, and can easily be fit into any personal beauty regime. Without the lengthy recovery time associated with more invasive procedures, the Fraxel Laser will leave patients looking refreshed, rejuvenated, and even years younger in minutes.
The Fraxel Laser will:
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Brighten the skin and complexion
- Eliminate dark, uneven pigmentation
- Decrease Melasma (known as ‘the Mask of Pregnancy’)
- Erase acne and surgical scars
- Ease the appearance of stretch marks
Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003, Fraxel is a non-ablative treatment, meaning it does not result in any visible damage to the skin’s surface. The Fraxel’s low-level of energy is concentrated into a tiny pinpoint, causing thin columns of micro-injuries throughout the tissue. These will encourage the body’s natural healing response, promoting the skin’s formation of collagen (a vital building block for healthy, strong tissues). Unlike similar lasers, the Fraxel has a low chance for side effects, such burns or scarring, to occur. The surrounding healthy tissues are unharmed with the Fraxel Laser, meaning excellent results with a shorter recovery time.
The Ideal Fraxel Candidate:
Anyone interested in improving the appearance, without the committing to a more invasive procedure, may make an excellent candidate for a Fraxel treatment. Most areas can be treated with the Fraxel Laser, including the face, neck, arms, and hands. The ideal candidate will understand the Fraxel procedure, be in overall good health, and have reasonable expectations for their results. Those with active skin infections, sunburns, or cold sores may be advised to postpone the treatment. A consultation appointment will be schedule with Dr. Vitenas to determine if the Fraxel Laser is right for each individual patient.
The Fraxel Procedure:
The Fraxel procedure is performed in one of Dr. Vitenas’ private, state-of-the-art treatment rooms. Each treatment will take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete. While the Fraxel is not considered painful, most patients will feel a warm, tingling sensation during each laser pulse. To improve the patient’s comfort level, a topical anesthetic will be used prior to treatment. Immediately before the procedure begins, a thin layer of gel will be placed along the treatment area. The Fraxel hand-piece will then gently glide across the surface of the skin, delivering quick bursts of laser energy.
The Results from a Fraxel Treatment:
The recovery after a Fraxel Laser treatment will take around one week. Initially, mild swelling and redness may occur. These fade over the first few days, as the tissues begin to heal. It is normal for the treatment area to become dry and flaky, as the old tissue begins to slough away. During the consultation, the esthetician will discuss the products and moisturizers that are safe to use during this time. Most patients will be comfortable returning to work less than a week after the Fraxel treatment.
After each Fraxel procedure, patients can expect to see a 15-20% improvement in the skin’s tone and texture. For optimal results, between three and six treatments (performed four to six weeks apart) will be recommended, depending on the level of correction desired. The results from a Fraxel procedure will slowly improve over the following three to six months, as the tissue continues to heal and the skin’s collagen supply increases. Benefits from the Fraxel can last up to a year.
When a Fraxel treatment is paired with other procedures, such as Botox Cosmetic or dermal fillers, patients will see maximum tissue rejuvenation. During your consultation appointment at Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery, we will explain which additional treatments can best compliment the Fraxel results.
