Calf Implant Surgery in Houston, Texas |
Calf augmentation is a procedure that is used to enhance the fullness of the calves of the legs. This can be accomplished with the use of solid silicone implants or with fat grafting. When implants are used, one or two implants may be used in each calf to increase the size of the calves medially and/or laterally as needed.
Candidates for calf augmentation include healthy men and women who are looking to enhance the appearance of the calves. Dr. Paul Vitenas of Houston, Texas, performs the calf augmentation surgery at the Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital which is conveniently located near Friendswood, Pearland and Clear Lake. This hospital was voted one of the top 100 hospitals in the U.S.
Calf augmentation is commonly performed with general anesthesia and takes approximately one hour to complete. An incision is made in the crease behind each knee and then a pocket is formed beneath the fascia of the calf. The implants are then placed in the medial and/or lateral compartments to increase the size of the calves.

Most patients find that they can return to work within one to two weeks following calf augmentation. During the first week, patients will need to wear compression stockings and they will need to stay off of their feet as much as possible. More strenuous activities and exercise can be resumed in six weeks. There are few risks associated with calf augmentation but these may include the very rare risks of bleeding, infection and scarring. Calf augmentation is an excellent procedure that produces wonderful results and very happy patients.
