Q - What is IPL?
IPL, also known as photofacial or photo rejuvenation, is a procedure which can improve the appearance of freckles and other spots resulting from sun damage or age. The procedure is also very effective in treating rosacea. IPL may be used to treat a variety of areas including the face, chest, back, and hands. At the Vitenas Skin Institute, the state-of-the-art Cutera technology is used. This system is more comfortable and more effective than older systems and offers improved results, minimal risk, and no downtime.

Q - Who is a candidate for IPL?
Men and women who are looking to improve the appearance of sun damage, age spots, and/or rosacea may be good candidates for IPL.

Q - Where is the IPL procedure performed?
The IPL procedure is performed in Dr. Vitenas’ office.

Q - Is anesthesia used for the IPL procedure?
Anesthesia is not necessary for the IPL procedure. The Solar Genesis  system we use does not require numbing or messy gel applications prior to the procedure.

Q - How long is the procedure time for IPL?
IPL takes less than thirty minutes to complete.

Q - What is the recovery like after IPL?
Some mild redness and swelling may occur around the treatment area after IPL. The treated spots will begin to darken immediately after the procedure but they will fade or flake off within seven to ten days. Patients must wear sunblock to ensure a good treatment outcome. Patients may return to their normal routine immediately after treatment.

Q - When will I be able to return to work after my IPL treatment?
Patients are able to return to work and other normal activities immediately after treatment. Sunblock must be worn to ensure a good outcome.

Q - What are the risks or possible complications of IPL?
There are few risks associated with IPL. Darkened areas of pigmentation occurring after treatment will fade within seven to ten days.

Q - Is the cost of the IPL procedure covered by insurance?
While patients should consult with their own insurance carrier, IPL procedures are generally not covered by insurance when performed for cosmetic reasons alone.

Q - Is it possible to finance my IPL procedure?
There are financing options available for plastic surgery procedures, including IPL treatment. For further information, please visit the following website: http://www.cosmeticfeeplan.com/.
