IPL, also known as photofacial or photo rejuvenation, is a procedure which has proven exceptionally effective in treating freckles or spots resulting from sun damage or age. IPL is also the gold standard treatment for rosacea. IPL may be used on the face, chest, back, and hands. At the Vitenas Skin Institute, we use the state-of-the-art Cutera technology which, compared to older technologies, provides a more comfortable and more effective treatment along with improved results, minimal risk, and no downtime.
Good candidates for IPL treatment include men and women who are looking to improve the appearance of sun damage, age spots, and/or rosacea. IPL is an in-office procedure that takes less than thirty minutes to complete. Unlike other IPL systems, our Solar Genesis requires no numbing or messy gel applications prior to treatment.
Immediately after treatment, the spots will begin to darken. Patients may also experience some mild redness and swelling in the surrounding area. The darkened spots will fade or flake off within seven to ten days. Work and all normal activities may be resumed immediately after treatment. However, patients are strongly advised to use sunblock and to regularly reapply sunblock in hot humid weather. This is essential to a good treatment outcome.
IPL may be combined with Titan and Genesis procedures, which is known as 3-D Rejuvenation. Together they result in improved contours, tighter skin, fewer wrinkles, reduced pore size, and glowing, spot-free skin. IPL may also be combined with 5-ALA/Levulan or, as an alternative to Accutane for the treatment of difficult acne, it may be combined with Photodynamic Therapy (PDT).Q - What is IPL?
