Mesotherapy: A Seasonal Solution?

Mesotherapy Treatment houstonDon’t shoot the messenger, but it’s nearly Christmas. That means one of two things: one, it’s a great time to take advantage of a bit of downtime to have some cosmetic work done (nobody will see you recover); or two, it’s time to start thinking about the New Year and how you’re going to get rid of all the seasonal excesses and start a fresh, New Year with a fresh New Body!

One of the best ways to do all of the above is with mesotherapy.

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy arrived in the 1990s from France, where it seems that the answer to the question “Why are French women so slim?” might not just be their diet. In fact, mesotherapy can provide a quick fix for spot weight reduction and even overall weight loss.

The technique involves injecting various compounds into an area of the body called the mesoderm. That’s a layer of fat and connective tissue just under the skin which can be reduced by the application of various medications.

The medications are designed to help dissolve the fat, returning it to the muscles where it is used as movement energy (which needs to be taken care of with a bit of additional exercise) as well as blocking the body’s ability to replace the fat.

That, at least, is the claim, and according to many it actually works.

Originally, the French physician, Dr. Pistor, used the technique to treat everything from infectious diseases to sports injuries. Despite the fact that he perfected it in 1952 and that doctors in Europe and South America have been using it ever since, the US market was a bit late to the party.

Body Contouring with Mesotherapy

In a nutshell, mesotherapy as applied by US cosmetic surgeons is a great way to help us get the body that we all crave. The advantages are clear – it’s minimally invasive, and that means two things. One, there’s no real surgery involved, just a series of injections, and two, the patient can get right back to work and resume their normal life with just a little bruising.

While it’s not going to be a solution for the heavily overweight, for toning, contouring, and rejuvenation, mesotherapy may just be the perfect solution. What’s more, it can be used as a very effective cellulite removal procedure, and on the face and neck to reduce the effect of the natural aging process. When combined with healthy living and regular exercise, you will even be able to maintain your new, toned, improved body shape with a minimum of repeat maintenance applications.

Now you might be forgiven for thinking that this sounds very much like liposuction, and in a way, it is. They both dissolve fat. Where they differ is that liposuction can deal with larger fatty deposits, but it is a much more invasive surgical procedure.

Mesotherapy is minimally invasive, and takes advantage of the body’s own processes to get rid of (and re-deploy) the fat, whereas liposuction requires removing the fat using a tube that is inserted into the body, agitated, and used to suck it out. There’s even an ultrasound liposuction, which sounds like it ought to be minimally invasive, but still requires that the fat be pumped out. However, liposuction is great for a very fast (instant) removal of large areas of fat, and mesotherapy can be used afterwards to complete the toning and contouring process.

At your consultation, you will be advised which is the best treatment for your body type and expectations – mesotherapy, liposuction or a combination of the two.
