How to Restore a Younger-Looking You

look younger

Do you ever look in the mirror and wonder where time has gone? You once saw a youthful face looking back at you. Today, you see someone who looks older and perhaps more tired.

It is possible to look younger, and getting a younger look doesn’t always require a facelift. There are a number of procedures designed to help you look younger. Each targets a specific area, whether you want to restore a youthful look to your cheeks, eyes or another area of your face.

Look Younger with Fat Transfer

Fat is a tricky thing. You don’t want too much of it on certain areas of the body, like around the tummy or hips. But, a bit of fat is a good thing when it’s around the cheeks of your face.

Facial fat loss is part of the aging process. As you get older, the amount of fat in your cheeks diminishes. Just look at the difference in the size and shape of a baby’s cheeks and the size and shape of the cheeks on a 40 or 50-something adult. Babies tend to have plump, full cheeks. Older adults tend to have sunken or thin cheeks.

The loss of fat often creates a gaunt, pulled look. It can also make the skin look more wrinkled, since there isn’t enough fat to smooth out the skin.

One way to look younger is to restore the lost fat to the cheek area. Fat transfer is the process of taking fat from one area of the body, then injecting it into the cheeks. Before it is injected into the cheeks or other recipient area, the fat is cleaned and purified.

Fat transfer helps you kill two birds with one stone. If you have an area of stubborn fat that won’t go away no matter how much you exercise or diet, the liposuction portion of fat transfer can help you reduce the amount of fat in that area. At least some of the removed fat is then put to good use, since it is injected in your face.

The entire process of removing and then injecting the fat usually takes anywhere from one to four hours, depending on the size of the area being treated. Recovery doesn’t take very long, thanks to the small size of the incisions and the minimally invasive nature of the injections.

You might be able to return to work as soon as one day after your fat transfer treatment. You may have some swelling in the treated area, but that will diminish after a few days. Since it can be hard to tell how much fat your body will reabsorb after the injection, in some cases your surgeon might overfill the area. You might look a bit fuller than you wanted at first, but your final results should appear within a few weeks or months.

Cheek and Chin Augmentation Improves Facial Contour

Another way to look younger and to restore volume lost in the cheek area is with cheek augmentation or implants.  Cheek augmentation can involve the use of an injectable filler or an implant to add volume to the area and to restore the contour of the face.

The recovery after a cheek augmentation is usually very quick, especially if a filler is used instead of implants. Many people are able to go back to their daily activities the day after their cheek augmentation. Some people do have some bruising or swelling after the procedure and may wish to stay home until those  side effects diminish or fade.

A chin augmentation is a similar procedure, except that the chin is the main area of concern. A weak or receding ages your face and can make other facial features, such as your nose, look out of proportion. In many instances, people who think that their nose is too large for their face actually have a chin that is too small.

Chin augmentation is a surgical procedure and involves making a small incision beneath the chin. The implant is then placed on top of the chin bone. Chin implants are often made of silicone and are available in a number of sizes and shapes so that a patient can get a chin that works well for his or her face and that helps to balance the facial features and create a more rejuvenated and youthful look overall.

Wake Up Tired Eyes with an Eyelid Lift

One of the first areas to start to show signs of aging is the eye area. The skin around the eyes is thinner than the skin around other areas of the face. The eyelids can start to droop early on thanks to gravity, and some people also develop bags under their eyes as a result of gravity and pockets of fat.

An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty,  can help make the eye area look younger. The surgery can minimize droopiness in the upper eyelids and can get rid of under-eye bags. Whether a patient has an eyelid lift on the upper or lower lids depends on his or her specific concerns. Some people have surgery on just one area, others decide to have surgery on both the upper and lower lids.

Recovery after an eyelid lift can take anywhere from a week to two weeks. You’ll most likely have some swelling and bruising and will want to take it easy on your eyes during the first week or so. Many people are able to go back to work within two weeks.
