Rhinoplasty at Houston’s Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery

Houston TX Nose JobSurgical correction of the nose and its structures is known as a rhinoplasty. Sometimes referred to as a nose job, rhinoplasty can reshape and rebuild the nose, and help to relieve functional breathing obstructions. Because the nose plays a prominent role in the balance of one’s facial appearance, changing the nose can achieve better harmony between the nose and the facial features. A well-proportioned nose, that is harmonious with the eyes, cheeks, and mouth can have a tremendous and powerful impact on our overall facial appearance. This balance also affects the way that others view us.

Dr. Vitenas’ rhinoplasty procedures are performed at the Houston Surgery Center. This accredited day surgery center is located adjacent to Dr. Vitenas’ office. The procedure can take from one to three hours, depending on the extent of correction. Dr. Vitenas uses general anesthesia during his rhinoplasty procedures.

Allure Magazine in Houston6Using an open rhinoplasty approach, Dr. Vitenas will make all surgical incisions entirely on the inside of the nose. This technique provides maximum visualization of the nasal structures and does not result in visible scars. In some cases, the incisions may be made on the inside of the nose along with a small external incision made on the underside of the nose between the nostrils. This technique is known as the external or open approach. Once Dr. Vitenas has placed the predetermined incisions, he will then sculpt the nose to the desired shape.

On average, rhinoplasty recovery can last from one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising are common, and normally fade over the next 10 to 14 days. However, it can take as much as a year for some unnoticeable swelling to dissipate. Some bleeding may also occur. The nose may be tender, and patients may experience a dull headache at first, though any discomfort can be managed with medication. The stitches are removed about three days after surgery. Most people are feeling well enough, and are confident in their appearance, to return to work in just a few days. Exercise, strenuous activities, and contact sports should be postponed for at least four to six weeks.
