Q - What is sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a procedure which can eliminate superficial spider veins. Only the safest and most effective sclerosing agents available today are used at the Vitenas Skin Institute. This sclerosing solution is injected into the veins which causes them to collapse and gradually fade from view within several weeks after treatment.

Q - Who is a candidate for sclerotherapy?
Men and women with small spider veins or thread veins may be good candidates for sclerotherapy.

Q - Where is the sclerotherapy procedure performed?
Sclerotherapy is performed in Dr. Vitenas’ office.

Q - Is anesthesia used for sclerotherapy?
Anesthesia is not required for the sclerotherapy treatment because the needle used is a tiny one.

Q - How is sclerotherapy performed?
A tiny needle is used to inject the sclerotherapy solution into the veins. The veins then collapse and form fibrous tissue, gradually fading from view within several weeks after treatment.

Q - How long is the procedure time for sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy usually takes thirty minutes to an hour to complete. Repeat treatments are often necessary.

Q - Is sclerotherapy a painful procedure?
There is minimal discomfort associated with sclerotherapy. Only a tiny needle is used and anesthesia is not required.

Q - What is the recovery like after sclerotherapy?
Some swelling, redness and bruising may occur after the sclerotherapy procedure. These side effects can take a few days to as much as two weeks to fade, and patients are required to wear support hose during this time. Normal activities can be resumed immediately after treatment.

Q - When will I be able to return to work after my sclerotherapy procedure?
Most patients can immediately return to work and other normal activities after treatment. However, patients whose jobs require them to sit at a desk all day should try to keep their feet elevated as much as possible.

Q - When can I exercise after the procedure?
Walking is fine during the first week after treatment. Most strenuous activities will need to be postponed for at least one week.

Q - What are the risks or possible complications of sclerotherapy?
We use only the safest and most effective sclerosing agents available today. These are unlikely to cause hyperpigmentation or other complications that may be associated with other sclerosing agents.

Q - Is it possible to finance my sclerotherapy procedure?
There are financing options available for plastic surgery procedures, including sclerotherapy. For further information, visit the following website: http://www.cosmeticfeeplan.com/.
