Three Lifts for Facial Rejuvenation

Houston Facial Rejuvenation

As we get older, our faces change. Fine lines appear and turn into wrinkles, cheeks tend to become more hollow, and jowls can form. Below the chin, the neck can start to sag and become more wrinkled, and our skin will tend to lose elasticity.

Even those of us who take care of our faces by using creams, lotions, and protection against wind and sun, will find that, over time, we lose that youthful edge. There’s an argument for looking a bit careworn and full of life experiences, but there’s also a point at which that becomes, well, old.

Luckily, there are a few things that can be done to help turn the clock back just a little. For a start, there’s Botox. It’s a great help in smoothing out wrinkles, and fillers can help, too. However, in some cases, minimally invasive procedures, attractive though they are, just aren’t enough. Here are three procedures designed to succeed where non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures won’t.

The Browlift

The idea behind the browlift (or forehead lift) is to rejuvenate the forehead area, helping to smooth out wrinkles and reposition features such as the eyebrows, which may have dropped slightly with age. It is a surgical procedure, with two options for incisions – from ear to ear behind (or at) the hairline, and the less dramatic hairline incision located at the top of the forehead.

Dr. Vitenas will choose the approach based on the patient’s desires and the extent of work necessary to achieve the best possible results. Naturally the type of incision will have an effect on the recovery time and discomfort encountered during healing. At worst this discomfort will manifest itself through some itching, light swelling and bruising. All of these can be managed with medication, and the bruising should disappear more or less completely after three weeks.

While the browlift is often overlooked, it is a great way to return some youth to a very visible part of the face. Perhaps as visible is the neck, which is another part of the body often overlooked when considering cosmetic surgery.

The Neck Lift

For many individuals, the neck tends to age faster than the face. It would be a shame to go through the browlift procedure only for your true age to show through a sagging, wrinkled neck. To counteract this, a neck lift may be a good option.

Part of the neck lift procedure may well include liposuction to remove excess fat, as well as excising skin and tissue, and tightening the platysma muscle. There are four separate ‘neck lift’ techniques detailed on Dr. Vitenas’ web site. They are variations on a theme, with each procedure having its own specific goals:

  • neck liposuction – sculpts the neck, removing excess fat and sagging skin;
  • cervical lipectomy – removes cervical fat through a small incision;
  • submentoplasty – combination of liposuction, cervical lipectomy and platysma muscle tightening;
  • necklift – platysma muscle is tightened, excess skin removed and re-draped.

Dr. Vitenas will select the procedure based on the patient’s goals, age, and other factors discussed during the initial consultation. Any neck rejuvenation involves a certain recovery time, from a few days (for basic liposuction) to a few weeks for full recovery from a necklift involving general anesthesia and muscle plication.

The neck lift and brow lift tackle two issues head on, but a third option is the facelift. The facelift contains elements common to the neck lift and can be combined with other procedures like the brow lift.

The Facelift

Prior to reading about it, it might be a good idea to visit the facelift gallery to see some before and after photos of various past patients. Hopefully, in doing so, you will be convinced that Dr. Vitenas has achieved exceptional results – not only in turning back the clock, but also in achieving a natural look that doesn’t give away the fact that surgery has been performed.

Using the latest techniques, Dr. Vitenas addresses both the surface skin and deeper issues by lifting and reshaping tissues beneath the surface. This is known as the ‘dual plane technique’ and has proven to be a great improvement over the old skin-only procedures that used to leave patients with a stretched and unnatural look.

Naturally to achieve the best results, Dr. Vitenas also tightens the muscles, re-drapes the skin (having made unobtrusive incisions behind the hairline and ears) and excises excess fat and other tissue. Such a comprehensive rejuvenation process also comes with a slightly longer recovery time than, say, Botox injections or a so-called mini face-lift, but that’s to be expected.

Although the initial bruising and swelling will go down after a couple of weeks and there isn’t any significant pain, there may be other side effects such as numbness, which will pass over time. The end effect is, however, well worth the slight discomfort, giving patients a relaxed, youthful look that will last a long time.
