Tummy Tuck

The Tummy Tuck for a Smooth, Firm Stomach

The abdominoplasty is one of today's most sought after plastic surgery procedures. More commonly called the tummy tuck, this specialized technique is designed to eliminate the stubborn fatty tissue and sagging skin that can develop along the abdomen as a result of pregnancy, dramatic weight loss, genetics, or the normal aging process. No matter the cause, unwanted fat and lax skin across the stomach can be almost impossible to improve through diet and exercise alone. To help patients achieve a smooth, taut abdomen, Houston's Dr. Paul Vitenas has been performing his innovative tummy tuck procedure for close to 30 years. Using his own, cutting-edge abdominoplasty techniques, Dr. Vitenas' tummy tuck will help patients regain a flat, firm stomach and a youthful figure. Best of all, when combined with a healthy lifestyle, the exceptional results from an abdominoplasty will last for years to come.

What is a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to eliminate excess skin and fat along the stomach. During the tummy tuck, a lower traverse incision will be created, running from hip to hip. From here, unwanted fat and lax skin is excised. The remaining skin is pulled taut and smooth. Stretched or separated stomach muscles can be restored during the abdominoplasty, as well.

When can I go back to work after my abdominoplasty?

A tummy tuck recovery takes from one to two weeks. During the first five to seven days, surgical drains may be in place to keep fluid from building up in the abdomen. A surgical garment will also need to be worn for proper healing and to help avoid swelling. Patients are generally tired and sore for several days. In most cases, abdominoplasty patients are able to return to work in seven to fourteen days.

Who is a good candidate for a tummy tuck?

The ideal tummy tuck patient will be in generally good health, at a stable weight, yet frustrated with an excess of fatty tissue and lax skin around their abdomen. Good candidates will understand the abdominoplasty procedure and its recovery period, be a nonsmoker, and hold reasonable expectations for their results.
