VI Peel FAQs |
Q - What is a VI Peel?
The VI Peel one of the newer chemical peels on the market that can be used on the face or body for improvement of several skin conditions. Because of the unique blends of acids, the VI Peel can assist with frustrating skin issues such as acne, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, uneven tone, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, sagging skin, age and hyperpigmentation due to sun, hormone imbalances and scarring without much down time, pain, and discomfort.
Q - How does a VI Peel work?
Using a combination of several chemical acids, the VI Peels remove the top layers of unhealthy, dead skin, allowing newer healthier skin to show. The Chemical peel also stimulates new collagen underneath the skin. This leaves the skin brighter, firmer, and younger looking.
Q - What are the benefits of a VI Peel over other chemical peels?
• Virtually pain-free
• Minimal "social" downtime
• Allows for immediate return to regular activities
• Safe and effective on all skin types and tones
• Light peeling that can be masked by using moisturizer
Q - Who should consider getting a VI peel?
Because of the unique blend of the VI Peel it can be used on all skin types and tones. Whether the patient has problem skin or just wants to have a healthier look, the VI Peel is an excellent option. It has been safely and effectively used on darker skin tones that have not historically responded well to other chemical peel procedures, such as Asian, African-American, Middle Eastern or Latino skin tones.
Q - How is the VI peel procedure performed?
A VI Peel can only be performed in a doctor's office and can be administered by a licensed nurse, licensed aesthetician or a medical doctor. While traditional peels included skin preconditioning, it is not necessary on lighter skin tones. Darker skin tones may be required to precondition the skin for 2-4 weeks prior to reduce the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The actual application process can takes only a few minutes and involves the chemical solution being topically applied to the skin. Some patients initially experience light stinging during application, which subsides quickly due to a numbing ingredient in the peel. Once the peel is administered, the practitioner will instruct the patient for home care. The peel is then left on the skin for a minimum of four hours and washed off by the patient at home. After cleaning and drying the skin thoroughly, the patient is given products to wipe on the skin that will enhance the peeling process.
Q - What can I expect from the recovery process?
Most patients will notice that their skin appears red and maybe even a bit swollen immediately after their VI Peel treatment, which is normal and will subside shortly after the procedure. Although patients can return to most of their regular activities after their appointment, the peel solution must stay on the face for a minimum of four hours. However, strenuous activities, such as exercise, that may cause the patient to sweat should be avoided. Sweat immediately after a peel or laser procedure may alter the results of the procedure and may cause a negative reaction.
The peeling process for most patients often begins on the third day after the procedure. Depending on the patients' skin type, the peeling process can last 3-7 days. During the peeling period, patients should avoid sun exposure as much as possible and always wear an SPF 30, as a minimum. Some sensitivity may occur during the peeling process. If necessary, moisturizer can be used during this time to mask the light, feathery skin peeling if the patient is concerned about the appearance of their skin, but it is preferred that the patient not use this if possible.
Q - Can VI Peel be used in conjunction with other procedures?
In many cases, patients with deeper skin damage and multiple issues may be instructed to have combination therapy where medical grade skin care, peels, laser, and other procedures are used alternately for optimum results. This can be discussed and prescribed by your practitioner.
Q - How many treatments do I need?
Our office usually will recommend a series of (4) treatments done every 3-4 weeks for certain patients. However, it depends on the patients' skin condition at the time of consultation.
Q - When will I see results?
Most patients will see results within just a few days after receiving a VI Peel. Overall appearance of the skin is improved as the newer healthier skin shows through. With a series of peels, reduction of hyperpigmentation will be seen as well.
Q - What is the price of the ViPeel?
The ViPeel cost is around $300 per treatment. This is an ideal peel to be used in conjunction with other skin treatments to provide optimal results.
