Why the Summer Season is Ideal for Plastic Surgery

summer season

You might have heard that winter is the best time for plastic surgery. It’s cold, you’ll be spending a lot of time indoors, and you’ll be covered up. Might as well make the best of it. But, winter also tends to be a pretty busy time in most people’s lives. If you’re not running around getting ready for the holiday season, you’re out and about making sure your kids’ projects are completed on time or rushing to meet important work deadlines.

Summer, on the other hand, is a much more relaxed season for many. Aside from Independence Day, there are no major holidays during the summer months. Work tends to slow down and your kids are off from school. For those reasons, and a few others, it might be worth considering plastic surgery, such as a tummy tuck, during the summer instead of the winter, spring or fall.

More Time Off

Even as society has gotten busier and busier, summer remains a time of rest and relaxation. People aren’t going to bat an eye if you decide to use your two weeks of vacation time during the summer. They are just as likely to assume that you’re headed somewhere with your family, not that you’ll be using the time to recover after a surgery. Along with being an easier season to take time off in, summer also tends to be a slower season overall. That means when you go back to work, you’re less likely to be overwhelmed by a number of projects that piled up while you were away.

Kids have off from school during the summer, too, which can either help or hinder you. If your children are older, they might be able to pitch in and help with simple chores and housework while you recover from a procedure. If they are younger, it can be easier to find a sitter for them, as local high schoolers will also be off from school and might be looking for a summer job babysitting.

Summer is also an ideal time for people who have to work during the school year to have surgery. For example, if you’re a teacher, you’re guaranteed to have about three months to recover after surgery, before the school year begins. The season can also be ideal for students considering ear surgery or nose jobs, as it lets them recover from their procedures without missing any days of school.

Preparation for the Holidays

One of the benefits of having breast surgery or a tummy tuck before the summer rolls around is that you’ll be recovered in time to hit the beach and to rock a bikini body. But, you might have another goal in mind when scheduling your surgery. Perhaps your 20-year high school reunion is going to roll around in the fall, and you want to look great for it. Or, you might want to look fantastic for upcoming holiday parties. If that’s your goal, scheduling surgery during summertime is a better pick than waiting until a few weeks before your reunion or a big holiday event.

You’re Just Not a Fan of Summer

Some people love the hot, humid days of summer. Others would rather spend all day inside with the A/C blasting. If you fall into the latter category, scheduling your surgery for the hottest season of the year just makes perfect sense. You don’t enjoy lying out by the pool or on the beach anyway, so you might as well make the most of the season by recuperating indoors, with the air conditioning set to a cool 68 degrees.

Things to Keep in Mind During the Summer

If you do plan a surgery for June, July, or August, there are a few precautions you’ll want to keep in mind. One is being particularly careful about sun exposure. You want to make sure to protect your skin from the sun’s ray on a regular basis anyway, but doing so after surgery is particularly important. The sun’s UV rays can make your surgical scars darker, which most people do not want.

Heat also makes swelling worse after surgery. No matter how tempting it might be to go and rest by your pool or to sunbathe outside during the first few weeks after surgery, it’s best to stay in, in the A/C, and to keep a cold compress or ice pack on the treated area to keep swelling down.
