Today’s women really can have it all. Ladies have full say over when they have children and how many they want. Many women also control whether they want to work outside the home or not. Even when it comes to their figure, if women want to improve the shape or lift of their breasts, they can have that too.
Having lots of options is great, but it can be puzzling to find the right answers for you. For example, if you are considering breast augmentation but also want to have kids one day, you might wonder when the best time to have surgery is. Is it best to do it before you have kids or at some point in the future, after you have started your family?
As it turns out, there is no one right answer to this question. Whether you get implants before kids or after depends on your plans, the timing of the surgery, and your individual pregnancy.
Breast Augmentation Before Baby:
One reason to get implants before you start having children is that it might be many years before you start a family. Enjoy the benefits of your breast augmentation sooner, rather than later. For example, you can get saline implants after age 18 and silicone implants after age 22. The average age of a woman having her first child is 26, although it is not uncommon to see a first pregnancy with ladies in their 30s or 40s.
This means if you get implants in your early 20s, you will get to enjoy the way they look for many years before you get pregnant. If you are not sure when your will be starting a family, then getting implants sooner may be the right option for you. There is no need to go for another decade or so feeling unhappy about the way your breasts look when you do not have to.
Another important argument in favor of getting implants before baby is that the physical changes of pregnancy are really still unknown. It is true that some women lose a considerable amount of volume or have more sagging after pregnancy. However, you might not. Many women have implants that look as good after pregnancy as they did before.
Of course, if you have plans to start your family in the next few years, it can make sense to postpone breast augmentation until after you are finished having children.
Breast Augmentation After Baby:
It is not uncommon for women to wait until after they have had kids to consider breast augmentation. You might not even think about getting implants until you have had babies and all of a sudden notice a number of changes in your body. For example, you might have been happy with your breast size before childbirth, but then loose a cup size or two after pregnancy and breastfeeding. In this case, getting implants after baby will make the most sense.
If you are getting implants to reverse the effects of pregnancy, then it usually makes the most sense to wait until you know you are finished having children. When you have a breast augmentation between pregnancies, the subsequent pregnancy can negatively impact the results of your surgery.
Implants and Breastfeeding:
Some women are concerned that getting implants before they have kids will mean that they will not be able to breastfeed in the future. That is not necessarily true. Many women with implants are able to successfully breastfeed.
Being able to breastfeed after a breast augmentation depends on a few things, particularly how the surgeon positions the implant and whether the milk duct is severed or otherwise damaged during the surgery. If breastfeeding is important to you, it is a good idea to mention that to the surgeon during your consultation. He will take that into consideration when performing the surgery, so that you have the option to breastfeed afterwards.
It is also worth noting that both saline and silicone implants are safe for women and for breastfed their babies.
