If you want great legs or the type of legs that make people turn and look, you have a few options. You can do squats and lunges all day long, you can try sunless tans to even out the color of your legs, or you can discuss your options with a plastic surgeon. A variety of procedures can help improve the look of your legs and make you proud to break out the shorts, skirts or even a swimsuit this summer.
Spider Vein Treatment
Spider veins are small varicose veins that develop near the surface of skin. They earned their name because they often look like small delicate spider webs. Most are either blue or red in color. The veins are often found on the legs, but can also develop on the face.
Depending on how many spider veins you have or how large of an area they cover, they can be a considerable source of embarrassment. You might feel the need to cover up your legs, to wear long pants even in the heat of summer. Fortunately, there are several reliable ways to treat spider veins.
One option is laser vein treatment. During the treatment, a laser beam is directed at the spider veins. The energy or heat from the laser causes the veins to seal shut, coagulate, and eventually fade from view. Your body reabsorbs the vein and any blood is redirected to other veins.
Treatment takes less than 30 minutes and recovery afterward is very quick. Most people are able to go back to work right away, for example. You will want to avoid sun exposure for about two weeks after the laser treatment, though. The sun’s UV rays can make spider veins worse and can also cause dark spots to form.
Depending on the size of your spider veins, you may need a couple of treatments to get the results you want. Many people see full results after one or two treatment sessions.
Liposuction on the Upper Legs
If you’ve long felt embarrassed by “thunder thighs” or that all the exercise in the world hasn’t been enough to slim the size of your thighs, liposuction might be an option for you. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes deposits of stubborn fat from certain areas of the body. Along with the thighs, it can be performed on the abdomen, hips, upper arms, and back.
Liposuction on the upper legs can be performed on the inside of the thighs, to help create a “thigh gap” or on the outside, to reduce or eliminate saddle bags. At the start of the procedure, the surgeon will make small incision in the legs. A solution will be injected into the treatment area. The solution contains a mixture of saline, epinephrine and lidocaine. It helps make the fat easier to remove by causing the fat to firm up and swell.
Next, the surgeon will remove the unwanted fat using a small tube and a suction device. After, the incisions are closed and the surgery is complete. You’ll most likely be asked to wear a compression garment around the thighs for a few weeks after liposuction. The garment will help shape the thighs and improve your results.
Although many people want to reduce the size of their thighs, a good many are looking to improve the size and shape of their calves. Calf implants can create a fuller look on the lower legs. You can choose to have an implant on one or both calves, depending on your needs and preference.
Calf augmentation surgery usually involves making a small incision behind the knee, then creating a pocket for the implant in the calf. The implants are typically made out of silicone, although it is also possible to increase the size of the calves with fat transfer.
After the surgery, you’ll want to take about a week off from work. You’ll want to be sure to stay off of your feet during the initial recovery period, as you don’t want to put too much downward pressure on the implants. It’s also a good idea to wear compression stockings during recovery. The stockings can help hold the implant in place and improve your results.
