America has a fascination with watching red carpet events. Seeing the glamorous all dolled up, the tanned bodies with muscle definition. It’s when America is reminded of how high heels do wonders for the calves – how having to arch the foot keeps those calf muscles shapely. There are two reasons why men might curse being socially discouraged from wearing heels: the first being that men don’t have the opportunity to add five inches to their frame, and the second, you guessed it, is that their calf muscles don’t get that extra definition.
For healthy men and women who wish to have better-looking calves, there’s calf augmentation. Calf augmentation can be done two different ways: using solid silicone implants or with fat grafting.
Let’s Talk About the Implants Option
When using implants, one or two implants may be used in each calf to increase the calves’ size medially and/or laterally, as needed.
The surgery lasts approximately one hour and is commonly performed with general anesthesia. An incision is made in the crease behind each knee, and a pocket is formed beneath the tissue enclosing the muscle of the calf, allowing the implants to be positioned in the middle or towards the sides of the calves.
The Recovery Period
Most patients are able to return to work within a week or two after the procedure. During the first week, you’ll need to wear compression stockings and must stay off your feet as much as possible. After six weeks, you may resume strenuous activities, such as exercising.
The cost of calf augmentation varies from patient to patient because it depends on which implants Dr. Vitenas and you choose. The procedure ranges from $5,000 to $8,500, a price that includes the cost of an operating room, anesthesia, and your follow-up visits.
As with all procedures, there are a few risks but they are very rare. They include bleeding, infection, and scarring. All this and more – like the success stories – will be discussed during the consultation, during which Dr. Vitenas and you will go over your options as well as your medical history. You’ll talk about anything and everything that you want out of the procedure. During the consultation, Dr. Vitenas will answer all of your questions, including technique, recovery, risks, costs, and financing options.
