The Perks of Liposuction

09/09/2016 by Dr. Vitenas

These days, you don’t need to havperks of liposuctione surgery if you’re looking to remove extra fat from your body. Procedures such as CoolSculpting get rid of excess fat, without any incisions. But, just because non-surgical treatments are out there, doesn’t mean they are right for everyone. For plenty of people, the perks of liposuction are much better than the perks of non-surgical fat removal.

If you’re near your goal weight and are tired of having extra fat in certain areas, take a look at the many perks of liposuction and decide whether it’s the right option for you.

It Removes Fat

One of the biggest perks of liposuction is that it gets rid of fat from your body. The super wet technique lets a surgeon remove a considerable amount of fat from the treatment area, without the need for blood transfusions and with a reduced risk for bleeding or bruising.

Despite what you might have heard, you can’t target specific areas of the body when exercising for fat removal. You can do all the sit-ups in the world, but still have a tummy pouch or do all the lunges possible and still have saddlebags. The only way to target specific areas of fat is with liposuction or another fat removal procedure. That means that if you’ve otherwise reached your health and fitness goals but still have fat in the tummy area, around the hips, on your thighs or elsewhere, the best way to get rid of it is by having liposuction.

It Helps You Get the Shape You Want

Liposuction doesn’t just remove extra, unwanted fat. It can also improve the shape of your body and can help you feel more confident about your appearance. If your saddlebags or muffin top have long made you feel self-conscious or have limited your clothing choices, liposuction can be the answer to your concerns.

You Can Treat Multiple Areas at Once

While some people have fat deposits in just one area of the body, it’s much more common for a person to have multiple problem areas. Non-surgical treatments do let you treat multiple areas of fat, but you often have to do so one at a time. In the case of liposuction, removing fat from multiple areas during the same procedure is not only possible, it’s also recommended.

If you want to remove fat from your abdominal area as well as your thighs, liposuction on both areas during a single procedure can save you money. You’ll pay less for anesthesia and will only need to pay one fee for the operating room. Although the overall cost is more when you combine areas, the total cost is less than if you were to have two separate liposuction procedures.

You also save time if you combine treatment areas during liposuction. The procedure takes longer the more areas you have treated, but the overall time is shorter compared to having two or more separate surgeries.

Recovery Is Pretty Quick

Liposuction does require a period of downtime and recovery. Usually, it takes about a week for the initial recovery, after which you can go back to a desk job or to another type of sedentary job. If your job requires a fair amount of physical activity, your surgeon will likely recommend waiting even longer before you go back to it. You’ll want to put off exercise and working out for about four weeks or so after your surgery, but can resume light activities fairly quickly.

Results are also somewhat visible right away after liposuction. It can take a few weeks or months before you can see your final results, but since the fat is gone immediately, you can get a good sense of what those results will be right away. Your surgeon will typically recommend wearing a compression garment for some time after surgery to help improve the final shape of the treated areas.

You Can Combine Liposuction with Other Procedures

Not only can you combine treatment areas into a single liposuction procedure, you can also combine liposuction with other body contouring procedures. For example, if extra fat and loose skin are a concern in your tummy area, you can ask a surgeon to perform liposuction at the same time as a tummy tuck. The liposuction will remove the extra fat from your tummy while the tummy tuck will create a flat, smooth abdominal area by removing the extra skin and by tightening the abdominal muscles.

It Can Put You On the Path to a Healthier Life

Liposuction permanently removes extra fat from specific areas of the body. But it’s not necessarily a permanent solution, unless you also make long lasting changes to your diet and exercise habits. One of the perks of liposuction is that it can encourage you to adopt a variety of healthier habits, whether they are eating a better diet, sticking to a workout or exercise routine or quitting smoking.

Since your surgeon will ask you to quit smoking about two weeks before your liposuction procedure, it can be the encouragement you need to quit smoking for good.
