Excessive sweating is sometimes indicative of a medical condition, referred to as hyperhidrosis.
People with hyperhidrosis produce sweat under normal conditions, like when the weather or room temperature is average, or even cool, and when the person is not active. Someone with hyperhidrosis can sweat a lot even when they are at rest, although it can be difficult to relax fully when hyperhidrosis affects you.
In the past, the only way to treat hyperhidrosis was with strong antiperspirants that can irritate the skin and damage clothing, certain medications that have side effects and vary in effectiveness, and surgery with its potentially attendant side effects.
But now with Botox, the same treatment most often used cosmetically to treat fine lines and wrinkles, excessive sweating can be controlled non-surgically with a safe and effective FDA-approved treatment.
The Botox Treatment for Hyperhidrosis Is Simple and Fast
Botox is most often used to treat underarm sweating, or axillary hyperhidrosis, but it can also be used to treat excessive sweating of the palms, or other areas where excessive sweating is present. The Botox, or botulinum toxin type A, is injected into the area where excessive sweating is most prevalent blocking the nerve signals that stimulate sweating. This is analogous to the way that it cosmetically treats lines and wrinkles in the skin and its other medical use to relieve chronic migraines.
The procedure lasts around 30 minutes, requires no anesthetics, and has no recovery period or downtime. The treatment is usually effective for a period of between six months to a year. Regularly scheduled, periodic maintenance treatments can alleviate this condition for life.
Like cosmetic Botox, the procedure has very few and minimal risks when performed by a qualified medical professional. Minor bruising and pain at the injection area may occur as well as more rare temporary flu-like symptoms.
Don’t Suffer With Hyperhidrosis
Have you tried a strong over-the-counter or prescription-strength antiperspirant? Do you avoid possibly stressful situations? Did you try medication for sweating or anxiety? Meditation? Changing your diet and removing caffeine and spicy foods? Do you wear clothes specifically to accommodate or mitigate any possible sweating? Have you ruined a nice suit or dress?
If you have answered yes to any or all these questions there is no need to suffer any longer. Excessive sweating can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. A simple, cost-effective treatment — that can be scheduled similarly to your regular dentist appointment or haircut — can relieve you of the burden of this troublesome condition.
