Breast Reduction Recovery Timeline
A long-acting local anesthetic is applied at the end of breast reduction surgery, so most patients wake up with tightness but very little pain. You’ll go home the same day with post-op care instructions. Here’s what to expect as you recover:
Days 1-3
Mild discomfort, swelling and tightness. Most patients manage well with prescription medication for the first day, then transition to Tylenol. You’ll wear a surgical wrap or supportive bra as directed.
Week 2
Many patients feel well enough to return to desk work. Avoid lifting anything heavy, and follow your wound care instructions carefully.
Weeks 3-6
Swelling and bruising continue to fade. By six weeks, most patients are cleared for exercise and normal activities.
Months 3-12
Final results become visible around three to four months as your breasts settle into their new shape. Scars refine over the course of a full year, gradually softening and lightening.
Dr. Vitenas and his team will see you for regular follow-ups and are always available between appointments if anything comes up.
