Micro Facelift vs. Mini Facelift: What’s the Difference?
These two procedures sound similar but differ in scope, technique and recovery. A micro facelift focuses on the midface only, uses small hairline incisions and achieves its lift through suture suspension of the SMAS without removing any skin. A mini facelift (also called a ponytail lift) is a more involved procedure that actually lifts and repositions the SMAS layer (deep plane lift), similar to what’s done in a deep plane facelift, and can address the midface, lower face, jawline and jowls.
Because there’s no general anesthesia, no skin excision and no deep dissection, the micro facelift carries fewer risks and a significantly shorter recovery than a mini facelift or full facelift. It’s designed to set the clock back a few years for patients who aren’t yet candidates for more comprehensive surgery.
