Get Rid of the Excess Skin With Labiaplasty

The body changes after giving birth — sometimes those changes result in excess vaginal skin. If this bothers you, there is a plastic surgery procedure out there that can rejuvenate the appearance of the vagina called labiaplasty, which just means labia reduction.

If the appearance of your vagina has been bothering you since giving birth, getting labiaplasty doesn’t only restore your vagina, it can restore your confidence.

Since the procedure removes excess skin from the opening of the vagina, any woman who feels subconscious about her elongated labia can be an excellent candidate for this procedure. But if your internal vaginal muscles have also been stretched through childbirth, alongside having a labiaplasty performed, you can also have a vaginoplasty, which is a plastic surgery procedure that tightens loosened internal vaginal muscles.

About the Surgery and Recovery

A labiaplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia. It takes about one hour. Incisions are made on the labia minora ‒ the two, smaller folds between the labia majora. After this, the excess skin is removed. Although recovery from the labiaplasty takes only one to two weeks, more strenuous activity, like sexual intercourse, should be avoided for four to six weeks. The sutures that are used during the surgery are dissolvable, so, after the surgery, no stitches will need to be removed.

Around the labia and surrounding areas, there will be slight bruising and some swelling. For any discomfort, medicine will be provided to help with the pain.
