The Thigh Lift from Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery

The thigh lift, sometimes known as a thighplasty, is a surgical procedure that meticulously reduces excess skin and fatty tissue along the inner and/or outer thigh. While liposuction can be used to eliminate excess fatty tissue, the thigh lift procedure also reduces lax skin and provides additional support to the internal structures of the upper leg. By eliminating the underlying fat and stretched skin, the thigh will become smoother and tauter. With a more streamlined contour, the thighs will no longer rub under clothing, taking on a trimmer and aesthetically pleasing look.

When to Consider a Thigh Lift

It is not uncommon for women and men to find their thighs becoming troublesome, especially with age. Weight gain or fluctuations, genetic disposition, and the inevitable loss in skin elasticity can make the thighs large, unsightly, and even uncomfortable. When out of proportion with body type, the thighs can cause a dramatic loss in self-confidence.

These individuals may be so uncomfortable with the appearance of their legs that shorts and swimwear are avoided all together. The thigh lift, from Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery, is a surgical procedure designed especially for those patients looking to reshape the inner and outer thigh. By reducing fat and eliminating loose skin, Dr. Paul Vitenas’ thigh lift procedure can create a more proportionate leg and restore confidence in the appearance.

Ideal Candidates for the Thigh Lift

An ideal thigh lift candidate will be looking to improve the overall size and shape of their thighs. Potential patients should be in generally good health, at a stable weight, be a nonsmoker, fully understand the surgical procedure, and hold realistic expectations for their thigh lift results.

  • Improve the appearance of both the outer and inner thigh
  • Remove excess skin
  • Eliminate unsightly fatty tissue

Your Consultation

Prior to scheduling a thigh lift, a confidential consultation will be scheduled with Dr. Vitenas, either in-person or online. During this time, the surgeon will review medical history, discuss the desired aesthetic results, and perform an examination of the legs. Dr. Vitenas will explain the options for a thigh lift in detail, including the pros and cons of surgery, as well as the recovery requirements.

After reviewing before/after photographs of his recent thigh lift patients, Dr. Vitenas will determine if the technique is the ideal option. If so, a personalized thigh lift treatment plan will be created. If any additional procedures are recommended, such as liposuction or an abdominoplasty, these will be included in the surgical plan.

The Thigh Lift Procedure

Dr. Vitenas will perform the thigh lift in one of his private surgical suites at the Houston Surgery Center, located adjacent to the Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery office. The Houston Surgery Center is located in the Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery building. Dr. Vitenas’ private, state-of-the-art surgical suites are designed to provide the safest procedures available today.

While the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, the length of time will vary according to the individual patient, the extent of correction, and if any additional procedures will be performed. Most thigh lift surgeries take between one and three hours to perform using general anesthesia.

Dr. Vitenas’ Surgical Technique

Dr. Vitenas will begin by creating an incision along a predetermined area. This will depend on the desired results. A thigh lift involves an incision along the groin, extending downward and wrapping around the body to the back of the thigh. During your consultation appointment, Dr. Vitenas will determine the most strategic location for your thigh lift incisions. While scarring does occur along the incision lines, Dr. Vitenas uses meticulous care to place the scars in the most well-concealed location possible.

Once the excess fat and lax skin have been excised, Dr. Vitenas will tighten and support the remaining muscles and tissues. By placing deep sutures, the underlying tissues are supported for long-term shape and volume. Finally, the incisions are sutured for proper healing, with a compression garment in place to reduce the chance for swelling and fluid buildup.

Thigh Lift Results and Recovery

The recovery from a thigh lift will vary from patient to patient, taking from one to two weeks. Most patients are comfortable enough to return to work in seven to ten days. Redness, swelling, and bruising are common, as well as moderate discomfort Dr. Vitenas will provide the necessary pain medications to manage the initial tenderness. A surgical garment will be put in place immediately after surgery and will need to remain in place for several weeks.

Thigh lift patients are encouraged to begin walking as soon as possible. While light, routine activities can be resumed in just a few days, strenuous exercise will need to be avoided for at least six weeks. Dr. Vitenas will carefully follow your recovery and give the go-ahead for adding more intense activities.

Enjoying Your Final Results

While the thighs may be smoother and tauter immediately after surgery, the full results will be obscured by swelling. While bruising and swelling will significantly fade over the first several weeks, residual swelling may take up to six months to fully dissipate following your thight lift in Houston.
