    Dramatically Reduce Signs of Aging

Facelift procedures are designed to reduce visible signs of facial aging. During a facelift, excess skin is removed, and underlying tissues are tightened and repositioned to smooth away deep creases, minimize jowls, tighten loose neck skin, and restore a more youthful facial contour.

While non-surgical treatments like dermal fillers and neurotoxins can provide a temporary lift, surgery is required for dramatic, longer-lasting facial rejuvenation. A facelift can turn back the clock 5-10 years, revealing the more youthful appearance that you miss.

Dr. Paul Vitenas will evaluate your facial concerns and anatomy during a consultation, then recommend a customized treatment plan using the technique that will give you youthful, natural-looking results.

    FaceliftFAQ

A facelift, also called a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:

    • Loose skin and sagging jowls along the jawline and neck
    • Deep creases extending from the nose to the mouth
    • Loss of a well-defined jawline

During a facelift, incisions are made to allow repositioning of the deeper facial tissues. Excess skin is then removed, and the incisions closed to achieve a smoother, more youthful facial contour.

An experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Vitenas will recommend a customized approach based on your anatomy, goals, and level of facial aging.

The cost of a facelift will depend on the extent of correction involved, but will normally start at $25,000. The price covers the anesthesiologist, surgical suite, doctor’s fees, and all follow-up care. There are different types of facelifts including short scar, macs lift, mid-facelift, and neck lift; each will have a different price range. Some patients also elect to have their brows lifted, excess skin removed for their upper or lower eyelids, and/or a combination of facial fat grafting to achieve a more youthful appearance. During your consultation appointment, Dr. Vitenas will determine the cost of your individual procedure.

Typically facial swelling starts resolving after day 3, and bruising fades in 10-14 days. Most facelift patients feel ready to return to work and their normal routines in 1-2 weeks. However, you’ll want to avoid strenuous exercise and activity for 4-6 weeks to allow proper healing.

Sleeping upright with your head elevated above your heart and without a pillow is recommended for the first 7-10 days after surgery to minimize swelling. Once the swelling subsides, you may sleep on your side.

Dr. Vitenas might provide you with a chin strap to be worn around the clock for the first week of facelift recovery to minimize swelling and support proper healing. The light compression helps prevent fluid buildup and allows the facial skin to re-drape smoothly. After that, he'll advise you to continue wearing it at night for up to an additional 2-4 weeks.

You’ll get an initial glimpse of results after surgery once dressings and compression garments are removed. As swelling resolves over the first 3 months, you’ll get a better idea of your rejuvenated appearance. However, full facelift results become apparent in about 6 months when all swelling has resolved. The tissues will continue to heal and settle over the next year, further refining your improved contour and enhanced facial aesthetics.
To perform a surgical facelift, Dr. Vitenas makes small incisions that allow him to reposition and tighten underlying tissues. Facelift incisions usually start inside the hairline and above the temples, continuing within the natural crease in front of the ear and ending within the hairline behind the earlobe. As the incisions heal, they are very difficult to detect.
While a facelift does involve incisions, any resulting surgical scars are extremely minimal. Facelift scars are strategically placed within the hairline and natural contours of your face and ears. This allows them to be easily camouflaged as they fade over time.
While everyone has a different pain tolerance, most facelift patients report only mild discomfort during their recovery. Swelling and tightness along the incision sites may cause temporary numbness or tingling. Any soreness is generally minor and easily controlled with prescription medication or Tylenol.

The small stitches used to meticulously close the incisions will need to be removed somewhere between 5-10 days after your procedure. Dr. Vitenas or a member of his skilled team will gently remove them during a follow-up appointment.

It is important to follow Dr. Vitenas' incision care instructions closely to allow for optimal healing. Avoiding any trauma or strain on the incisions helps prevent the widening or thickening of scars.
