What type of anesthesia is used?
The type of anesthesia depends on your procedure. Surgical procedures like breast augmentation, tummy tucks and facelifts are performed under general or IV sedation anesthesia, administered and monitored by a board-certified anesthesiologist. Dr. Vitenas also uses long-acting local anesthesia to minimize discomfort once you wake up. Nonsurgical treatments like Botox and fillers require only topical numbing, and you can return to your day immediately afterward.
Why is an accredited surgical facility important?
Accreditation means a surgical facility has met rigorous safety standards set by an independent organization. Dr. Vitenas’ private facility, the Houston Surgery Center, holds AAAASF accreditation. This certification requires facilities to demonstrate complication rates below 0.5%, maintain proper emergency protocols, employ qualified personnel and pass regular inspections. Choosing an accredited facility significantly reduces your risk of complications.
What are the risks of plastic surgery?
All surgery carries some degree of risk, including bleeding, infection, scarring and reactions to anesthesia. Procedure-specific risks vary and will be discussed thoroughly during your consultation. Dr. Vitenas minimizes risk through careful patient selection, meticulous technique and operating in an accredited facility with a board-certified anesthesiologist. Following your pre- and post-op instructions also plays a significant role in reducing complications.
How much does plastic surgery cost, and what’s included in pricing?
Costs vary based on the procedure, technique and whether you're combining surgeries. Dr. Vitenas uses all-inclusive pricing with no hidden fees. Your quote includes the consultation, pre-op appointments, in-office lab work, surgeon's fees, anesthesiologist fees, operating room and facility costs, private recovery bay with nursing staff, implants (when applicable), post-surgical compression garments and a lifetime of follow-up appointments. Prescriptions and any lab work required from your primary care physician for medical clearance are not included. Visit our pricing page for procedure-specific starting prices.
Do you take out-of-town patients?

SurgicalBreast Enhancement
How long do implants last?
Breast implants are long-lasting but not meant to be lifetime devices. In general, you can expect your breast implants to last 15-20 years before considering replacement or removal, but certain complications, including rupture, capsular contracture and changes in position, can affect the longevity of your implants. There is no strict “expiration date,” and many women enjoy their implants for well beyond 20 years.Â
Do implants need regular monitoring?
The FDA recommends routine implant monitoring via an MRI or ultrasound starting five to six years after surgery (and every two to three years after) to check for leaking and other issues, even if no symptoms are present.
Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?
Most women can breastfeed after breast augmentation. The ability to nurse depends on factors like incision placement and whether the milk ducts and nerves were affected during surgery. Dr. Vitenas uses techniques designed to preserve breastfeeding function, but it's worth discussing your future plans during your consultation so he can tailor his approach accordingly.
How do I choose the right breast implants?
SurgicalBody Contouring
Will a tummy tuck remove stretch marks?
During a tummy tuck, stretch marks on the lower abdomen (below the belly button) are typically removed along with the excess skin. Stretch marks above the belly button will remain, though they may appear less noticeable once the skin is tightened and repositioned.
What’s the difference between a tummy tuck and liposuction?
Liposuction removes stubborn fat but doesn't address loose skin or separated abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck removes excess skin, tightens the underlying muscles and creates a flatter, more contoured midsection. Many patients benefit from combining both procedures, and Dr. Vitenas can help determine which approach will give you the results you're looking for.
Can I have children after a tummy tuck?
SurgicalFacial Procedures
How long does a facelift last?
Results vary based on the type of facelift performed and individual factors like skin quality and lifestyle. A mini facelift typically lasts five to 10 years, while a full facelift can maintain results for 10 to 15 years. Dr. Vitenas' deep plane facelift technique addresses deeper tissue layers, which tends to produce longer-lasting, more natural-looking results.
What’s the difference between a mini facelift and a full facelift?
A mini facelift targets early signs of aging in the lower face and jawline using smaller incisions and a shorter recovery time. A full facelift addresses more advanced concerns across the midface, jowls and neck. During your consultation, Dr. Vitenas will evaluate your anatomy and goals to recommend the approach that makes the most sense for you.
At what age should I consider a facelift?
Can rhinoplasty improve my breathing?
Yes. Rhinoplasty can address both cosmetic concerns and functional issues like a deviated septum that restricts airflow. Dr. Vitenas evaluates the internal and external structure of your nose to determine if surgical correction can improve your breathing alongside any aesthetic changes you're hoping to achieve.
SurgicalPlastic Surgery for Men
What is gynecomastia and how is it treated?
Gynecomastia is the development of excess breast tissue in men, often caused by hormonal changes, certain medications or genetics. Treatment typically involves liposuction to remove fatty tissue and, in some cases, excision of glandular tissue to create a flatter, more masculine chest contour. Results are permanent as long as you maintain a stable weight.
Will plastic surgery make me look feminine?
No. Dr. Vitenas tailors every procedure to your unique needs and goals. If that includes maintaining a masculine appearance, your results will be tailored to do just that. Depending on the procedure, techniques for men differ from those used for women, whether it's maintaining a stronger brow during a facelift or creating a more angular jawline with chin augmentation.

SurgicalRecovery
When can I go back to work after plastic surgery?
Recovery timelines vary by procedure. Most patients return to desk jobs within two to three days after breast augmentation, and two to three weeks after a tummy tuck or a facelift. Jobs requiring physical activity or heavy lifting will require more time off. Dr. Vitenas provides personalized recovery guidelines based on your procedure.

Do I need Botox or filler?
Botox and fillers address different concerns. Botox relaxes the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles like frown lines, forehead creases and crow's feet, while dermal fillers restore lost volume and smooth static wrinkles that are visible even when your face is at rest. Many patients benefit from both. During your consultation, Dr. Vitenas will assess your concerns and recommend the right combination to achieve your goals.
Which neurotoxin is considered “the best?”
There's no single "best" neurotoxin. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin all contain botulinum toxin type A and work similarly. Some patients find one brand lasts longer or kicks in faster for them, but results are generally comparable. Dr. Vitenas offers Xeomin at $14 per unit, with Botox priced slightly higher. Our team can help you decide which option makes the most sense based on your goals and budget.
What’s the difference between lip filler and a lip lift?
Lip filler adds volume using injectable hyaluronic acid, with results lasting 12 to 36 months. A surgical lip lift permanently shortens the space between your nose and upper lip (the philtrum), creating more visible pink lip tissue and a subtle upturn. Filler is ideal if you want temporary enhancement or aren't ready for surgery. A lip lift is better suited for patients seeking permanent improvement, particularly if the upper lip has lengthened with age.

Consultation & Getting StartedResearch
What credentials should I be looking for in a plastic surgeon?
Look for board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). This is the only board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties for plastic surgery and requires surgeons to complete an accredited residency, pass rigorous written and oral exams and maintain ongoing education. You should also confirm your surgeon operates in an accredited facility and has significant experience with your specific procedure.
What is an AAAASF accreditation?
AAAASF stands for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities. It's one of the most respected accrediting bodies for outpatient surgical centers. Facilities with this accreditation have passed detailed inspections, demonstrated low complication rates (below 0.5%), and met strict standards for equipment, staffing and emergency preparedness. Dr. Vitenas' Houston Surgery Center holds AAAASF accreditation.
How do I verify if my plastic surgeon is board-certified?
You can verify board certification through the American Board of Plastic Surgery website at abplasticsurgery.org. Simply enter the surgeon's name to confirm their certification status. You can also check the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) directory, which only lists ABPS-certified surgeons. Dr. Vitenas is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
What’s the difference between a plastic surgeon and a cosmetic surgeon?
Plastic surgeon is a protected title requiring board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which mandates specific training in reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. "Cosmetic surgeon" is not a regulated term, and physicians from various specialties (dermatology, general surgery, even emergency medicine) can legally use it. Always verify your surgeon's credentials and training background before scheduling a procedure.
Consultation & Getting StartedConsultation
What should I bring to my consultation?
The consultation is perhaps the most important step in your plastic surgery journey. Come prepared with a list of questions to ask. Also bring a list of your current medications (including any supplements you take), your medical history, and any relevant imaging or records from previous surgeries. If you're considering financing, you can complete a pre-approval application beforehand to streamline the process.
What questions should I ask?
Ask about your surgeon's experience with your specific procedure, including how many they've performed and their complication rate. Ask to see before-and-after photos of patients with similar anatomy to yours. Clarify what's included in pricing, what the recovery timeline looks like and what results you can realistically expect. Don't hesitate to ask anything that's on your mind. A good surgeon welcomes questions.
Should I bring photos?
Yes. Photos help Dr. Vitenas understand your aesthetic goals. Bring images of results you find appealing, as well as any you want to avoid. For procedures like rhinoplasty or breast augmentation, visual references make it easier to communicate the look you're hoping to achieve. Just keep in mind that your results will be tailored to your unique anatomy, so outcomes won't be identical to someone else's.
Will an exam be performed at my consultation?
Yes. Dr. Vitenas performs a physical evaluation during your consultation to assess your anatomy, skin quality and overall health. This exam helps him determine which procedures or techniques will best address your concerns. The exam is private and professional, and you're welcome to bring a friend or family member for support.
Consultation & Getting StartedCosts & Financing
How much should I expect to pay?
Costs depend on the procedure, techniques used and whether you're combining surgeries. What financing options are available?
Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery offers financing through CareCredit, ALPHAEON Credit and Cherry. These programs offer flexible payment plans and promotional 0% APR periods. Applications can be completed online in minutes, and our staff can help you determine the right financing amount after your consultation. We also accept cash, and all major credit cards..
Do I need to put down a deposit to book my surgery?
Yes. A deposit is required to secure your surgery date. For out-of-town patients, the deposit is typically 20% of the total cost. The remaining balance is due three weeks before your procedure. Your patient coordinator will walk you through the payment timeline and answer any questions during the scheduling process.
Do you offer any discounts?
Returning patients receive a 10% discount on surgeon's fees. Active duty military, National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve members qualify for a military discount through the Vitenas Patriot Program. Occasionally, promotional pricing may be available for specific procedures. Ask your patient coordinator about current offers during your consultation.
